Premium DTF transfers from InkMerge are precut, pre-weeded, and ready to press in seconds. Choose your heat source below for full step-by-step instructions. All three methods produce, durable prints that last 75+ washes.

Quick Reference

Method Temperature Time Pressure Peel
Heat Press 305°F (150°C) 10-15 seconds Medium-firm Hot peel (immediately)
Cricut EasyPress 320°F (160°C) 20 seconds Medium Hot peel
Household Iron High / Cotton setting 15-20 seconds Firm, even Cold peel

Heat Press Application

The heat press is the gold standard for DTF transfer application. Best results, fastest turnaround.

  1. Preheat your heat press to 305°F (150°C). Wait until the press reaches and stabilizes at temperature.
  2. Pre-press the garment for 5 seconds. Removes moisture and wrinkles, ensuring even adhesion.
  3. Position the transfer. Place the DTF transfer film-side up (printed image facing down toward fabric is wrong — matte side down). Make sure it's aligned and centered.
  4. Press for 10-15 seconds. Apply medium-firm pressure. Set timer; do not exceed 15 seconds.
  5. Hot peel immediately. Lift the carrier film off while still warm in one smooth motion. Pull at a low angle.
  6. Optional second press (recommended). Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper. Press again for 5 seconds at 305°F. Locks in durability and creates a softer hand feel.

Works on cotton, polyester, cotton-poly blends, nylon, canvas, and even some leather. Dark or light fabrics. White ink base layer ensures colors on any color garment.

Cricut EasyPress Application

Perfect for crafters and home users without a full heat press. Provides consistent heat and pressure.

  1. Set EasyPress to 320°F (160°C). Slightly higher than heat press to compensate for less surface area contact.
  2. Prepare a heat-resistant surface. Use the EasyPress mat or a hard, flat surface. Avoid pressing on a regular ironing board (too soft).
  3. Pre-press garment for 5 seconds to flatten and remove moisture.
  4. Position the transfer flat. Smooth the carrier film to remove any air bubbles.
  5. Press for 20 seconds with medium pressure. Apply your full body weight evenly. Move the EasyPress in a 1-inch radius if covering a larger transfer.
  6. Hot peel. Remove the carrier film while still warm in one smooth motion.
  7. Optional cool-down second press. Cover with parchment, press another 5 seconds for added durability.

Household Iron Application

No heat press? No problem. A regular household iron works for most cotton and polyester garments. Slightly more variable results, but completely usable.

  1. Set iron to highest cotton/linen setting. Disable the steam function entirely — steam ruins DTF adhesion.
  2. Use a hard, flat surface. An ironing board is too soft — place a wooden cutting board or hardcover book under the garment.
  3. Pre-press the garment for 5 seconds. Removes moisture and creates a dry, hot surface.
  4. Position the transfer carefully. Make sure it sits flat with no air bubbles.
  5. Press firmly for 15-20 seconds. Apply your full body weight directly down. Do NOT slide the iron — lift and reposition if needed.
  6. Press each section twice. If the design is larger than the iron base, press multiple times with overlapping coverage.
  7. Cold peel. Wait 30-60 seconds for the transfer to cool completely. Then peel the carrier film slowly.
  8. Final press for durability. Cover with parchment paper, press another 10 seconds.

Tip: Iron application requires firm, sustained pressure — the most common cause of lifting is insufficient pressure or moving the iron during the press.

Care Instructions

Properly cared-for InkMerge DTF transfers last 75+ washes without cracking, peeling, or fading.

  • Turn the garment inside out before washing.
  • Wash cold (max 30°C / 86°F) with similar colors.
  • Tumble dry low or hang dry. Avoid high-heat drying.
  • Do not bleach. Avoid fabric softeners that contain silicone.
  • Do not iron directly on the design. Iron inside-out or use a Teflon sheet.
  • Wait at least 24 hours after pressing before the first wash to allow full curing.

Troubleshooting

Transfer lifting at the edges? Increase pressure on next press, or do a 5-second second press at the same temperature.

Colors looking dull or faded? Temperature too low. Verify with a heat-press thermometer.

Carrier film tearing during peel? Wait longer for hot peel transfers, or peel slower at a lower angle.

Adhesive residue on garment? Press too long. Reduce time by 2-3 seconds and check.
